Specialized semiconductor company Sigetronics (Co-CEOs Kyu-Hwan Shim and Deok-Ho Cho) announced on the 11th that it will participate in the 2024 Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition, HKEF 2024), held from April 13 to 16 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Since its inception in 2004, the Hong Kong Electronics Fair has become Asia’s largest biannual IT trade exhibition, held every spring and autumn (April and October).
Sigetronics plans to highlight its photodiodes (PD) for smartwatches and wearable devices, as well as electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection devices, during the exhibition.
The company has developed a broadband photodiode (BB-PD), a type of optical sensor that converts light energy into electrical energy and is capable of detecting multiple wavelengths simultaneously. It is currently working to supply this product to global customers.
The ESD devices are essential protective components in electronic devices, shielding sensitive circuits from sudden surges like static electricity. These components play a critical role in extending the lifespan of electronic devices and are closely tied to the LED market, where significant growth is expected.
Sigetronics also aims to secure new markets for its gallium nitride (GaN) power semiconductors. Compared to traditional silicon semiconductors, GaN devices can withstand 2–3 times higher voltages and operate reliably under high temperatures, making them ideal for next-generation applications.
In collaboration with the Korea Nano Technology Research Society, Sigetronics achieved a world-first by implementing an enhancement-mode (E-mode) GaN power device for simplifying high-efficiency power conversion systems.
Executive Director Jong-Won Kim stated, “Hong Kong is geographically positioned as a key hub for global innovation and a strategic node in the international network,” adding, “We expect to conduct active business consultations at HKEF 2024, which is expected to attract over 66,000 buyers from more than 160 countries, including Korea, China, ASEAN, the U.S., Europe, and Japan.”
