A joint technology seminar organized by the Korea Power Device Industry Association (KPDIA) and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) was held on the 14th at the Korea Defense Industry Association headquarters in Mapo-gu, Seoul. The event brought together representatives from DAPA, power semiconductor companies, and related institutions to discuss strategies for strengthening domestic capabilities in power semiconductors and weapon systems localization.

In his opening remarks, Lee Hyung-jin, Deputy Director at DAPA, emphasized the critical role of domestic semiconductor technologies in enhancing the operational stability of defense systems and achieving greater industrial autonomy. “Securing localized technologies is key to ensuring the reliability of military systems and reinforcing national security,” he stated.

The seminar featured technical presentations from leading KPDIA member companies and institutions, including Hyowon Powertech, GNP Technology, Aprosemicon, SIC Korea, Wavepia, Sigetronics, JMJ Korea, Arche, Decio, and the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI). Each shared the latest progress in power semiconductor R&D and applications in defense technology.

The event also included a robust Q&A session between DAPA officials and industry experts, during which challenges and solutions related to the localization of military-grade power devices were actively discussed. The exchange underscored the need for close cooperation between the government and private sector to overcome technical and regulatory hurdles.

Choi Yoon-hwa, Chairman of the Korea Power Device Industry Association, commented, “This seminar reaffirmed the importance of localizing defense weapon systems and the growing role of the power semiconductor industry. It serves as a stepping stone toward stronger public-private partnerships.” He added that the association will continue to support the development of domestic technologies and promote the growth of Korea’s defense semiconductor ecosystem.
