On July 16, the Korea Investor Relations Service (KIRS) released an analysis of Sigetronics, highlighting the company’s differentiated electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection technology and its ongoing efforts to diversify revenue through its proprietary semiconductor foundry line.
Sigetronics primarily manufactures ESD protection devices, which are semiconductor components designed to shield electronic circuits from sudden voltage spikes—such as those caused by static electricity—by rapidly suppressing transient overvoltages. These devices are essential in virtually all modern electronic equipment.
Research analyst Kyungmin Kim at KIRS noted, “Sigetronics’ ESD protection devices are capable of suppressing transient voltages in the range of 8kV to 30kV within just a few nanoseconds, demonstrating exceptional performance. This technology plays a crucial role in enhancing both the stability and lifespan of electronic devices.”
According to the report, ESD protection devices have consistently accounted for the majority of Sigetronics’ sales, contributing 49.0% in 2022, 63.8% in 2023, and 84.6% in Q1 2024. In addition to ESD solutions, Sigetronics is actively engaged in sensor device manufacturing, power semiconductor development, and foundry services to further diversify its revenue streams.
Kim emphasized the company’s push into next-generation power semiconductors using gallium nitride (GaN), a high-efficiency material gaining traction in advanced electronics. “Sigetronics has a track record of success in GaN RF transistor development and is now aggressively expanding into GaN-based power devices as a new growth engine. Their in-house M-FAB foundry line is central to this strategic shift,” he explained.
The report also noted Sigetronics’ efforts to expand its product portfolio through collaborations with major domestic conglomerates as well as global clients such as OPPO. The company has recently been supplying sensors for smartwatches and wearable devices, including flip-chip packaged optical sensors.
“If large-scale sales in the wearable sector materialize quickly, Sigetronics could significantly reduce its operating losses in the near term,” Kim concluded.
