Joint Efforts in Defense R&D and Localization of Specialized Semiconductors
Sigetronics Co., Ltd. and the Korea Institute for Defense Industry have joined forces to foster the development of the defense sector as part of strengthening national defense capabilities. On August 27, 2025, the two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for mutual cooperation and support, agreeing to enhance collaboration in defense R&D project discovery, education programs, and research and development activities.
Through this agreement, both organizations will work to establish a comprehensive cooperation system across academia, industry, research, government, and the military, which forms the foundation for the advancement of the defense industry. To this end, they plan to leverage existing human networks and participate in major defense exhibitions, thereby pursuing practical and tangible cooperation.
In addition, the parties agreed to support business growth in areas such as electrostatic devices, sensors, power semiconductors, RF, and foundry technology, while jointly promoting the localization and development of compound semiconductors and defense-specialized semiconductors.
Notably, Sigetronics will officially join the Korea Institute for Defense Industry as a corporate member under this agreement, building a sustainable mutual growth system and taking an active role in strengthening the competitiveness of the defense industry.
A Sigetronics representative stated, “This agreement will serve as an important stepping stone for securing advanced technologies in the defense sector and for developing the overall industrial ecosystem. We plan to actively participate in defense R&D and localization projects in the future.”
