Sigetronics, a leading compound semiconductor company, announced on the 11th that it will officially begin its entry into the automotive MEMS sensor market starting in early 2026, leveraging its existing optical sensor capabilities and in-house silicon fabrication facilities.

The global automotive MEMS sensor market is expected to grow from USD 4.3 billion (KRW 6.3 trillion) in 2024 to USD 11.3 billion (KRW 16.57 trillion) by 2032, representing a CAGR of 12.8%. Sigetronics has set 2026 as the launch point for its full-scale business expansion, aligning with the acceleration phase of market growth.

The company has secured technological advantages across the entire MEMS process chain, based on the precision manufacturing technologies, process management expertise, and silicon chip processing capabilities accumulated through its optical sensor business.

In particular, leveraging its microfabrication and silicon wafer processing capabilities, Sigetronics plans to combine outsourced processing with a foundry business model to secure cost efficiency and production flexibility, while expanding collaboration with global Tier-1 automotive suppliers and OEMs. The optical and precision-processing technologies refined through its optical sensor production are also expected to provide direct synergy in MEMS sensor development, further strengthening competitiveness.

With the rapid expansion of electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid vehicles (HEVs), autonomous driving (ADAS), and thermal management system (TMS) demand, the importance of high-performance sensors in the automotive industry has risen significantly.

Stricter emission and safety regulations are accelerating the advancement of high-spec pressure sensors for ESC and ABS. Looking ahead, demand is expected to grow for high-precision, high-reliability sensors featuring fault-prediction capabilities, internal temperature and offset monitoring, highly reliable pressure sensors for EV applications, and battery cell pressure-monitoring technologies. The importance of highly reliable sensors interoperable with SiC and GaN power systems is also increasing.

By adding the MEMS sensor business as a new growth pillar on top of its stable optical sensor revenue base, Sigetronics aims to accelerate long-term growth and enhance technological competitiveness.

A company representative stated, “Through the MEMS sensor business, we aim to further improve fab utilization and profitability, while making a full-scale entry into the global automotive electronics market based on our proven quality and reliability. Our goal is to establish a competitive foundry lineup in the automotive MEMS sensor sector and secure a meaningful market position both domestically and internationally.”
