Sigetronics Expands Optical Semiconductor Business Centered on IREDs and Phototransistors

Sigetronics, Inc., a specialized semiconductor company, announced on Oct. 1 that it is expanding its optical semiconductor business, focusing on infrared light-emitting diodes (IREDs) and phototransistors.

According to the company, the two devices are key components used in optocouplers for power electronics applications. An optocoupler converts electrical signals into light and transmits them without allowing electrical current to flow directly between circuits. This provides electrical isolation, protecting control circuitry from high voltages and helping ensure stable system operation.

Sigetronics has recently observed growing demand for both light-emitting and light-receiving devices through supply discussions and mass-production activities with customers, and is strengthening its response to the market.

Leveraging its product portfolio that enables the company to supply both key optocoupler components, Sigetronics plans to expand mass-production volumes for individual customers while continuing customer evaluations of new products.

A company official said, “We plan to continuously expand mass-production volumes for each customer and pursue quality qualification of new products, with the goal of establishing the optical semiconductor business as a new growth pillar for the company.”
